Hello everyone here at defsounds. This is my first blog here, and I’m really feeling the need to get something off my chest. Now, I haven’t been a member here for too long, but during my stay thus far I’ve seen the word “gay” used to describe everything about the new generation of hip hop. Honestly, yes there are a number of things about hip hop that can be categorized as gay, but it’s really starting to get under my skin that everyone that doesn‘t dress or have the new school hip hop look, especially all the OLD hip hop heads out there immediately call it gay.

Now here’s the thing. Skinny jeans, tight t-shirts, wallets chains…When it first came to the hip hop forefront it was called a “fad.” So lets define this word fad.

Fad – “A fashion that is taken up with great enthusiasm for a brief period of time; a craze”

Hmm…So this is where you all lose me. A brief period of time right? So If any of you people know anything about American culture and the hip hop culture you would know that skinny jeans have been around for quite some time. And they are no new trend to hip hop. Lupe Fiasco has been seen rockin’ them but niggas don’t go around dropping the word gay with him. Why you ask? Because Lupe is one of the sickest lyricist hip hop has ever known, so he can’t be gay right? But because the New Boyz aren’t lyricist…and they wear skinny jeans…they’re gay. Not that I like the New Boyz, but that’s just an example.

Tupac rocked skinny jeans…The Fresh Prince was rockin’ em…I could go on and on. Anyways, if we’re going to start calling people gay because of the style of clothes that they find comfortable how come we don’t call Ice Cube, and Dr. Dre gay? Them niggas used to wear high water jeans with their fuckin’ shirts tucked in! Yes, they did, google that shit.

My whole point here is that the old saying still stands today; clothes don’t make the man. I’m one of the new generation of hip hop fans and I wear skinny jeans. I have a girlfriend. I like vagina. I simply prefer having my clothes fit, rather than ripping and tearing them when I walk cause they’re too big and go under my shoes when I walk. I spend a lot of money on my clothes and I take care of my shit. Why does it matter to all you OLD heads out there what other people have on? If anything doesn’t that make you the homosexual? Not me. Another definition you all need to go and look up is the word homosexual, because if you do, you’ll see that choice of clothing has nothing to do with it. Stop worrying so much about what other niggas are wearing and enjoy music. The “new” hip hop look as you guys all like to call it is here to stay…get used to it.
